Hello,
Here is yet another story of how the government is bending rules to favour corporations. This time, once more, it's the Adani group. I know, you might be fatigued reading about continuous environmental destruction in India. But this one will wake you up.
At a time when our surroundings are dystopian- clouds of smog hover over us and toxic foam floats on rivers- the government has yet again extended an illegitimate favour to its corporate champion.
In 2023, the Modi government launched the Green Credit Programme with much fanfare. This was to promote green actions like afforestation. We showed how the programme was rushed through to help companies fulfil their environmental obligations.
Now, official papers show that the Gujarat government asked the Centre to remove land parcels earmarked for the greening scheme. Four of these forestland parcels, it said, were 'demanded' by Adani's company for deforestation.
The irony of the request was lost neither on the supervising body of the green credit programme nor the environment ministry.
Then the Gujarat government refreshed its request. And the job was done.
The Gujarat government's response to our queries, set beside official papers, nails its lie. The Adani group replied by asking us the questions we had posed to them.

Investigations like this one require months of work and effort and I request that you continue to donate to our small but determined team that relies on your donations to stay afloat.
