Hello,
Many legal luminaries have written with deep concern about how the Digital Personal Data Protection Act chokes the Right to Information Act and the citizens’ rights to hold the government and other powerful entities answerable by the use of information and data. Consequently, the law would also be rendered ineffective in India.
We wrote to Press Organisations that are engaged with the Union government on it. We share it with everyone because it is a matter of wider concern and journalists are just a subset of those who would lose their fundamental rights if the law is notified in its current shape.
Here it is for you to read and engage with: Letter on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023
